St. John's Lodge 3972

We are a Freemasons' Lodge meeting in Northampton and we are a proud part of the Universities Scheme

Who Are We?

A Lodge entirely built on camaraderie and fellowship

St John’s Lodge is a Northampton Masonic Lodge, consecrated in 1919 as the fifth Lodge to be established in Northampton and the first to be consecrated since 1892.

Following the end of the Great War there was a huge influx of soldiers returning from the conflict and many came into Freemasonry, all across the country, as a great way to maintain their fellowship with their comrades in arms. This was the origins of St. John’s Lodge.

The Lodge currently meets four time a year in October, for our Installation, December, February and April.

A special kind of Masonic Lodge

Freemasonry

Membership is open to people from all backgrounds and the aim is to empower members to be the best they can be.

There are currently around 175,000 members throughout England and Wales, as well as Districts overseas. There are separate organisations for Women.

St. John's Lodge 3972

We are one of 87 Lodges across the UK that are part of UGLE’s University Scheme.

We welcome new members, ranging in age from 18 upwards, who are students in Further Education, including undergraduates and postgraduates as well as senior members of a university and alumni.

The Universities Scheme

The scheme enhances the opportunities for students, and others connected with universities, to join and enjoy Freemasonry.

Although it was relaunched in 2005 the principle is not new. The first university Lodge – Apollo University Lodge – was founded at Oxford in 1818.

Some comments about the Universities Scheme

Freemasonry has changed my life. I have made the best group of friends I’ve ever had and feel like I’ve known them forever.

I joined Freemasonry whilst at university as part of the Universities Scheme and have been involved ever since. What I love most about it is not only the friendships and camaraderie, but also the skills you learn that you’d never think of, such as increased confidence in public speaking, research and the confidence to go out of your way to help others when necessary, all whilst having fun.

You really get to meet a great cross-section of society, people that you wouldn't otherwise meet and its just been a fantastic ride from there. It's been life-changing. One of the best decisions I've ever made.
